Patricio Pitbull's move to the UFC is a monumental moment for MMA.
The Brazilian star (36-7) will make his debut in the organisation at UFC 314, taking on Yair Rodriguez (20-6, 1NC). Ahead of his big fight, the 37-year-old spoke to DAZN News about his recent signing.
"I'm excited," he said. "I can see there's a bigger dimension to all this. There's more repercussion than before, but I'm very comfortable with this atmosphere and I’ll go in there and do my job."
Formerly with Bellator, the former two-weight champion has always had the UFC in the back of his mind.
"All the time," he said. "When I was the champion in Bellator, people kept saying that the top fighters were in the UFC, and I always wanted to fight the champion in the UFC and the champions of other organizations.
"While I was at Bellator, I was able to fight the Rizin champion and I beat him."
At 37, Patricio Pitbull has his sights set on winning the UFC featherweight belt now that he's in the organisation. As a reminder, the title will be decided between Alexander Volkanovski (26-4) and Diego Lopes (26-6) following the departure of Ilia Topuria (16-0) to lightweight.
Patricio Pitbull doesn't care who the champion is, as he feels the title is destined to be his.
"I almost fought the PFL champion, but the fight fell through," he said. "I never got the opportunity to fight the UFC champion. There were no talks of co-promotion.
"Now that I'm here [in UFC], I wish I could fight for the title right away, but I'll make my way up and win the title now."
