Frozen fury! 2025 WRC battle hots up at snowy Rally Sweden

DAZN

The FIA World Rally Championship prepares for a flat-out bobsleigh run, as it lands in Scandinavia for the only snow rally of the year, at the 2025 WRC Rally Sweden.

Teams make the trip north after last time, where the new season started with tightly close battles in the mountains north of Monaco at the Rallye Automobile Monte Carlo.

Fighting day and night, against the weather and ever-changing road conditions made the all-important tyre choices a complete gamble.

Putting everything on black was eight-time World Champion Sébastien Ogier, with the Toyota talisman battling his way to victory for a tenth Monte win in a glittering career.

With the Frenchman only contesting a part-season campaign this term though, the door is now wide open for a new crew to stand on the top step of the podium.

Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT has an impressive roster at its disposal to keep the winning machine rolling though, with British star Elfyn Evans an event winner in 2020

Younger teammate Kalle Rovanperä also boasst a victory from 2022, with the pair joined by Japanese talent Takamoto Katsuta and developing youngster Sami Pajari.

Putting them to the sword will be the Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team, who hope to respond after a mixed start on opening weekend last month.

The Korean outfit saw 2019 champion Ott Tänak and defending world title holder Thierry Neuville only manage fifth and sixth respectively on mixed surfaces.

Both have won on snow before though, and will be joined in the hunt by new recruit Adrien Fourmaux, who lifted his stock by bagging a podium last time on team debut.

You can never discount the underdog spirit either. If the stars align in Sweden, then the privateer M-Sport Ford team could well fight for a podium position too.

Season regulars Grégoire Munster and Josh McErlean are gunning for solid points as a minimum on the snow and ice, and will be joined by Mārtiņš Sesks too.

The Latvian will hope to light up the stages as he brings his committed and explosive driving style to the slippery surface in the first of a selected event campaign in 2025.

Other drivers to look out for in the ultra-competitive WRC2 feeder series include local aces Oliver Solberg (Toyota Yaris) and Pontus Tidemand (Skoda Fabia) too.

Both will be vying for class victory as well as a giant-killing overall leaderboard scalp, so just who will keep their cool this weekend on the frozen forestry tracks of Sweden?
