Sesks still trying to find WRC set up 'sweet spot' in Estonia

Martins Sesks is cautious about making predictions ahead of Rally Estonia after admitting he’s still yet to find the “sweet spot” with the set up of his M-Sport Ford Puma Rally1.

The World Rally Championship rising star is expected to fare much better this weekend than he has in previous rounds of his six rally programme with the Ford squad. That is down to the fact Estonia’s stages are among the fastest gravel roads the WRC undertakes which suit Sesks’ driving style, having grown up competing on similar gravel tests in his native Latvia.

Last year Sesks burst onto WRC world stage by setting a blistering pace on fast gravel roads in Poland, where he finished fifth, before going on to challenge for a podium at the Latvian round.

This year has proved to be a challenge for the 25-year-old, who has stated that 2025 is all about learning and gathering experience for the future. A run to sixth in Sweden in February is Sesks’ best result to date this season heading into Estonia.

When asked what he thought was achievable on roads that suit his deriving style, Sesks said: “I don’t know what is achievable. I’m really bad at predictions this year.

“I would like to achieve some competitive times throughout the rally and I think that would be nice to see. Of course, it is understandable that the biggest key will be consistency, so that is what we will be looking for.

“We had some testing in Finland but Estonia is a but different so we did some adjustments in the shakedown. It is quite ok and of course you always want to do more.

“The feeling is a bit different this year with the car and everything. I’m still trying to find the sweet spot.”

Sesks however has been boosted by the fact that a significant contingent of fans from Latvia have made the journey across the border to Estonia to offer support.

“This is our closest event this year to home and it feels like that I have only had to drive for a few hours from home to here,” Sesks added.

“It is has been really great already in the shakedown as I have already seen lots of Latvian flags and we have lots of support here. I think it just brings more joy to the job we are doing here. It is amazing that fans are following and you can really feel that.”
