River Plate

With their famous red sash across the front of their shirts, River Plate are one of football's most famous names and will be a big attraction at this summer's tournament.

2025 will mark a third appearance in the FIFA Club World Cup for the Argentines, who reached the final in 2015 only to lose to a peak Barcelona side that included Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

The 38-time Primera Division winners are one of six CONEMBOL sides competing in the States and qualify as the best-ranked eligible team in the four-year ranking.

The South Americans will fancy their chances of making a mark on proceedings after being drawn in a promising group.

Key man - Manuel Lanzini

Premier League fans will remember the tricky Argentine from his spell with West Ham, where he was part of the club's Europa Conference League-winning squad.

He moved back to his first club from the Hammers in 2023 and has now made over 100 appearances for the club.

Manager - Marcelo Gallardo

A player for River Plate in the mid-noughties, Gallardo also represented PSG and Monaco as well as the Argentine national team before moving into coaching.

His first spell in charge of River saw him win a slew of trophies with the club, and he returned in 2024 following a stint managing Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.

Inter Milan

A giant of Italian football, Inter are the reigning Serie A champions, but could go into this summer's competition having had a disappointing end to the season following their embarrassment in the Champions League final - something they'll be keen to make up for in the States.

The Italians are also previous winners of the competition, having lifted the trophy in 2010, beating TP Mazembe in the final held in Abu Dhabi.

The current side boasts a wealth of world-class names, including Marcus Thuram, Nicolo Barella and leading man Lautaro Martinez.

They'll be favourites to progress out of this group and could be dark horses for the whole competition.

Key man - Lautaro Martinez

One of Europe's deadliest marksman, the Inter skipper has become a cult hero at the San Siro and is closing in on 200 goals for the club.

If you're looking for a decent bet for the Golden Boot, the Argentine has to be in the conversation.

Manager - Cristian Chivu

The former Inter and Romania defender is widely reported to be the club's new head coach following the departure of Simone Inzaghi earlier this month.

Monterrey

It's the sixth appearance at the FIFA Club World Cup for Mexican side Monterrey, with only Auckland City and Al Ahly appearing in more tournaments.

So far, their best return has been two third-placed finishes, one in 2012 and the other coming in 2019 when Liverpool beat them in the semi-finals.

The five-time Primera Division winners qualify for this year's competition thanks to their 2021 CONCACAF Champions League win.

They'll be led by one of Europe's best-ever skippers this summer and have a squad that also includes Sergio Canales and Hector Moreno.

Key man - Sergio Ramos

Wearing the 93 shirt and the captain's armband, the legendary Spanish defender will be 39 when the tournament kicks off, but shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.

Having a man who amassed 180 caps for his country and won four Champions Leagues will only benefit the Mexicans in the USA.

Manager - Martin Demichelis

One for the 'Premier League players that time forgot' games, Demichelis spent three seasons at Manchester City and won the Premier League during the 2010s before retiring in 2017.

Since moving into management, he's coached River Plate and, in August last year, took over at Monterrey.

Urawa Red Diamonds

Flying the flag for Japan in this year's FIFA Club World Cup is J1 League heavyweights Urawa Red Diamonds, who make their fourth appearance in the tournament.

Their best effort came in 2007, as they finished third after being beaten in the semi-finals by eventual winners AC Milan.

They qualify for this summer's competition after winning the AFC Champions League in 2022 and have a squad of mainly home-based players and Japanese internationals.

There's no doubt they'll head to the US as the group underdogs, but they're a side not to be underestimated.

Key man -  Genki Haraguchi

The experienced midfielder adds much-needed know-how to the Urawa side, having amassed 74 caps for his country during his career.

Haraguchi also spent the majority of his career in Germany, where he turned out for Herta Berlin and Stuttgart.

Manager - Maciej Skorza

The man who led the Diamonds to their Champions League win in 2022 returned to the club in 2024 after carving out a management career in his homeland.

A coach since 1994, the 53-year-old won silverware with four different Polish clubs before making history in Japan.
