It took until the second half, but Arsenal's dominance on the ball ultimately paid off as the Gunners eased past an overmatched Newcastle side 3-0 on Monday.

A pair of goals by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and a 60th-minute strike by Bukayo Saka propelled Arsenal to victory after a tentative opening half brought flashbacks of last week's uninspiring scoreless draw with Crystal Palace. However, a motivated Arsenal side ensured that it would not be repeating that Palace letdown as the Gunners played a spirited second-half punctuated by the trio of goals.

It actually could've been worse for Newcastle, who allowed 20 shots (six on target) while ceding 67 percent possession to the hosts. Regardless, the result is the same as the Gunners continue their good form while the Magpies inch closer to the dreaded relegation zone.

DAZN News provided live commentary throughout the match. Here's how it went down.

Full time: Arsenal 3, Newcastle 0

The Gunners are full value for the victory after turning it on in the second half.

Newcastle has some real problems.

90' Stoppage time

We're into three added minutes of play.

This is academic as Arsenal looks to maintain the clean sheet.

77' Goal, Arsenal

Aubameyang gets a brace as Cedric puts the ball on his foot for a 7-yard tap-in.

There was some doubt as to whether the ball had stayed in prior to Cedric's cross, but the VAR check shows that it stayed in by millimetres.

75' Clock's ticking down

This has turned into a glorified training session for Arsenal now. It's hard to see how Newcastle can get back into this match.

66' Save, Newcastle

Darlow's caled into action again as Lacazette tries to hold it down from point-blank range.

Arsenal's buzzing now, and could've scored another two or three in this half.

60' Goal, Arsenal

Saka side-foots it home from next to the penalty spot after a good run and cross by Smith-Rowe. No chance for the goalkeeper.

It's been all Arsenal since the break.

50' Goal, Arsenal!

Aubameyang gets set free down the left side and the Arsenal attacker drives into the box before unleashing a left-footed laser that Darlow couldn't reach.

Lovely finish, that.

47' Save, Newcastle

Lacazette turns and fires a low shot from inside the Newcastle area, forcing Darlow to get low quickly. The 'keeper does well to react, because he didn't have a clear line of sight with several players between him and Lacazette.

Good start to the half.

46' Second half kick-off

Newcastle gets us underway for the closing 45 minutes.

Halftime: Arsenal 0, Newcastle 0

No stoppage time was given as the referee blows for halftime right at 45:00.

Arsenal had 68% of the ball and generated seven attempts at goal, but only one shot was on target. It's been a half of meaningless possession for the home side, while Newcastle looks to break quickly through Almiron, potentially finding the head of Carroll in the box.

Save, Newcastle!

Darlow has to scramble as an Aubameyang shot from the left deflects off a defender and heads toward the upper left corner in the 43rd minute. The 'keeper does well to stretch and palm it over.

Nothing happening for Arsenal

All the possession in the world hasn't helped the Gunners through 40 minutes as they seem incapable of creating real chances at goal.

Newcastle's plan

Through 28 minutes it's obvious that Newcastle is trying to counterattack through Almiron on the right side. The winger has seen a lot of the ball (when the Magpies retrieve it), and his pace is a primary weapon against the Gunners.

Unfortunately for Newcastle, Almiron's crossing has left much to be desired, but he's a left-footer playing on the right so that's always going to be tough.

Aubameyang hits a tight-angle shot across the face of goal and connects with the far post in the 15th minute. You'd have put money on him to score that one, but the angle made it a tougher finish than it initially looked.

Arsenal bossing possession

As expected, the home side is all over the ball through the opening six minutes. Newcastle seems comfortable ceding possession at this time.

We're underway
