Three days after their stunning defeat to Manchester United in the Premier League, Manchester City have suffered an even more shocking loss as they fell 3-1 away to FK Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The Sky Blues were overrun by their Norwegian hosts, who are based north of the Arctic Circle, but it wasn't the cold that did Man City in, according to Pep Guardiola.
They just ran into a good team, said the Man City boss.
"Of course we lost, and everything since the new year is against [us] in many many things," Guardiola said after Tuesday's match. "I know how good a team they are, don’t underestimate them, semi-final last season in the Europa League, they are fresh in their minds.
"We arrived in some departments without important players and [the remaining players] are a little bit fragile like they were last season in a certain period, but how they fought, 10 against 11, a lot of players made a step up."
Man City were forced to play shorthanded after captain Rodri's back-to-back yellow cards in the second half, but Bodo/Glimt had already scored all of their goals by that point and looked the far likelier side to take the victory. Guardiola said some of the player absences affected his selection, but that those who did play did well.
He wants to see more in upcoming games, however.
"We have to change the dynamic for the next game against Wolves [on Saturday] and Galatasaray [next week]," Guardiolsa said. "We were flat against United but not today.
"We don’t have Savinho, Jeremy, our wingers. In other departments we have players not here and they would give us more consistency.
"We struggled a little bit. Glimt were really good and we congratulate them."
