Bruno Fernandes is not up to Arsenal's standards, according to Emmanuel Petit.

Amid a tumultuous season with Manchester United, Fernandes told DAZN earlier this month that he's "unsure" if he wants to stay with the club he currently serves as captain.

The Portugal international would surely have many suitors lined up should United decide to move him on this summer, but Petit says Arsenal should not be one of them.

Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, the former Arsenal player explained that he doesn't find Fernandes' leadership up to par and isn't convinced that the United star would find a place in the Gunners' current lineup.

"Should Arsenal sign Fernandes as back-up to [Martin] Odegaard? To be honest, Odegaard is a better player than him and I’m not that convinced with Fernandes," Petit said.

"He’s the captain and one of their better players, but I’m not sure Arsenal need him. Odegaard also has a better mentality and isn’t always upset, throwing his arms up in the air to his teammates.

"When you’re captain, you have to be a leader in difficult times and show why you’re the captain. The behaviour of Arsenal players and their commitment to the cause, I’m not sure Fernandes has the same standards."
