How much money will Barcelona, Man City, Arsenal and other clubs make from the World Cup?

We already know that the World Cup will be bigger than every previous edition, with 48 teams and 104 matches to be played this summer.

The expansion isn't just limited to the number of teams, games and players, though. On Friday, FIFA announced the details of the FIFA Club Benefits Programme (CBP) for this year's tournament. The CBP outlines a revenue-sharing agreement in which FIFA will distribute payments to clubs whose players are taking part in the World Cup.

A total of $250 million (all figures USD) will be distributed to clubs with players at the tournament, with another $100 million allocated as compensation for players released for World Cup qualifying matches.

Naturally, some clubs can expect a bigger piece of the pie than others, depending on how many players they have on World Cup squads and how far those players progress through the tournament.

How much money will players earn for their clubs at the World Cup?

The $250 million pool, divided by the total number of players at the tournament and the number of games to be played, works out to roughly $5,000 per player, per day for their clubs. Payments are calculated from the competition's first day, June 11, through to the day of the World Cup final (July 19).

Which clubs will earn the most from the CBP at the World Cup?

Manchester City lead all clubs with 19 players named to various squads at the tournament, making this the third straight World Cup that the Sky Blues have the most representation at football's biggest competition.

At $5,000 per player, per day, City will earn a minimum of about $1.5 million through the 16 days of the group stage. Of course, given the pedigree of players employed by the Premier League side, many of those can expect to play well into the knockout stages, making City's ultimate compensation higher.

The Sky Blues were paid $4.6 million for their players' participation in Qatar 2022, and they can expect a similar level of compensation this time around.

Other globally recognized clubs also have several players taking part in this World Cup, including Bayern Munich (18 players), PSG, Barcelona and Arsenal (16 players each). 

What is the maximum a player can earn for his club at the World Cup? 

Sticking with the Man City example, a player like Rayan Cherki (France) is expected to have an extended stay in North America this summer.

Should France go all the way to the final, Cherki will be at the World Cup for all 39 days of the competition. At $5,000 per day, Cherki's presence at the World Cup will earn $105,000 for Man City.

Do clubs earn payments when their players participate in World Cup qualifiers?

As noted, there is a $100 million pool set aside for World Cup qualifying matches.

FIFA stated that "the anticipated benefit stands at approximately USD 2,360 per player, per match," for the 905 qualifying matches that were played ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
