France vs. Senegal preview: Team news and how to watch World Cup match

Group I of the 2026 World Cup kicks off with a match of the round contender as France and Senegal are set to collide in the shadow of New York City on Tuesday.

The French are considered to be among the favourites to win the entire tournament as they are blessed with a mouth-watering talent pool and recent success in major competitions. Didier Deschamps has led Les Bleus to the 2018 World Cup title along with runners-up medals at Qatar 2022 and Euro 2016, as well as a fourth-place finish at Euro 2024.

The 57-year-old has announced that this World Cup will mark the end of his 14-year tenure as France head coach, and he'd love nothing more than to lead his nation to glory once more before stepping away.

As for Senegal, while their squad isn't as deep as that of the French, they still boast an enviable amount of talent that is capable of giving even top opposition fits. The Lions of Teranga don't have a particularly impressive recent record at the World Cup, but they'll look to turn their fortunes around on the back of standout performances at the Africa Cup of Nations, where they have been champions and twice runners-up in the last seven years alone.
