Upheaval at the top: France, Spain fall in live FIFA World Ranking ahead of World Cup

There's a new ruler at the top of FIFA's men's world ranking. At least unofficially.

France and Spain, who occupied the top two spots respectively in the last official update, have both fallen below Argentina due to less-than-stellar recent results in pre-World Cup friendlies on Thursday.

The French fell to Ivory Coast 2-1 on after Amad Diallo's 84th-minute goal broke the deadlock between the sides. That result saw France lose 7.89 rankings points, leaving them with 1869.43 points ahead of their next friendly, against Northern Ireland in Lille on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Spanish drew 1-1 with Iraq in A Coruña, leading to a 3.38-point drop. According to FIFA's live rankings, Spain are currently second in the world with 1873.01 points and will face Peru in Puebla, Mexico, on Monday.

That leaves Argentina alone at the top with 1874.81 points, with the Albiceleste  yet to play any matches this month. The Lionel Messi-led side will take on Honduras on Saturday in Texas before facing Iceland in Alabama on June 9.
