Where does Cape Verde's draw with Spain rank amongst the World Cup's biggest upsets?
The 2026 World Cup has produced its first major upset with Cape Verde holding European giants to a 0-0 draw.
There are 65 places between Spain, who are second, and Cape Verde in the FIFA world rankings, and heading into the match, it was expected to be an easy day's work for the reigning European champions, who are one of the favourites to win the tournament.
Instead, it was a frustrating one in Atlanta with Cape Verde producing a courageous defensive display, spearheaded by their 40-year-old goalkeeper Vozinha.
But where does this match rank amongst the great World Cup upsets? DAZN News takes a look at some of the biggest shocks to grace football's biggest tournament.
England fail to beat part-time USA (1950)
With the World Cup taking place in the United States, it feels appropriate to mention the USA's 1-0 victory over England in 1950.
England were expecting to be lifting the trophy in Brazil, but the USA, who were made up of part-time players, shocked the Three Lions with a 1-0 win.
To add further misery to England's campaign, they failed to make it out of their group.
DAZN/FIFANorth Korea stuns 10-man Italy (1966)
Following a tough qualifying campaign, North Korea had the privilege of spending their time at Middlesbrough's Ayresome Park when they participated in the 1966 World Cup.
North Korea lost to the Soviet Union and drew with Chile in their first two group games, before beating Italy 1-0 in what was a huge shock.
Italy were reduced to 10 men after captain Giacomo Bulgarelli was forced off injured.
North Korea were close to producing another upset in the quarter-finals, this time against Portugal after leading 3-0. However, Portuguese football legend Eusebio scored four in a 5-3 win to reach the semi-finals.
Maradona's Argentina humiliated by Cameroon (1990)
The opening match of Italia 90 saw the holders, Diego Maradona's Argentina, face Cameroon, who were yet to win a World Cup match.
Milan's San Siro was a perfect venue to kick off the World Cup with one of football's greats gracing the pitch.
That was where all the pleasantries stopped for Argentina who lost to nine-man Cameroon 1-0.

Andre Kana-Biyik was the first man to be sent off for Cameroon in the 61st minute, but against the odds, they scored six minutes later after Francois Omam-Biyik's header ended up in the back of the net after a huge mistake from the Argentina goalkeeper.
Benjamin Massing was the second player to receive a red card with two minutes of the 90 remaining, but Cameroon held on to win 1-0 and pull off one of, if not the biggest upset in World Cup history.
Senegal topple World and European champions France (2002)
At the start of the millennium, France were the international football powerhouses.
Winners of the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000, along with the devastating attacking trio of Thierry Henry, David Trezeguet and Djibril Cisse, big things were expected of Les Bleus at the 2002 World Cup.
African side Senegal awaited France in the tournament's opening game, and while the latter were without star midfielder Zinedine Zidane, they were expected to kick off their campaign with a win.
Instead, Senegal, who were making their World Cup debut, beat France 1-0 courtesy of Papa Bouba Diop, and it marked the start of a dismal tournament for the French, who failed to make it past the group stage and score a single goal.
Germany thrash tournament hosts Brazil in semi-final (2014)
A World Cup upset involving Germany and Brazil does not feel right, but this needs to be considered due to the match which transpired at the Estadio Mineirao.
Emotions were high in Brazil, the dreams of winning a World Cup as tournament hosts and ending a 12-year wait was within touching distance, but the Germans had other ideas.

5-0 down inside 30 minutes, this dream had suddenly vanished before the match ended 7-1.

Saudi Arabia make comeback to beat Lionel Messi's Argentina (2022)
Kicking off a feast of football on November 22, Saudi Arabia faced Argentina in their opening Group C game.
Led by Lionel Messi, Argentina were expected to sweep Saudi Arabia aside, and took the lead through a Messi penalty in the 10th minute whilst having three goals disallowed for offside in the first half.
Saudi Arabia scored two goals within five minutes during the second half to win 2-1 courtesy of Saleh Al-Shehri and Salem Aldawsari.
Once the full-time whistle was blown, Argentina were being subjected to endless ridicule by football fans across the world, but this footballing mad nation would have the last laugh when they lifted the trophy a few weeks later after beating France in one of the World Cup's great finals.
