How many times have Spain won the FIFA World Cup?

After an underwhelming  World Cup  final, Spain triumphed in New York to win the 2026 tournament. 

Spain  overcame Argentina's defensive tactics to defeat the holders with a 1-0 victory thanks to Ferran Torres' extra time winner. 

It means Luis de la Fuente's side are now both the European champions and world champions. 

It is, however, not the first time the Spain national team has won the World Cup.

How many times have Spain made the World Cup final? 

The 2026 victory marks the second occasion that Spain has made it all the way in the competition to get to the tournament's final. 

Their first appearance in the finale came in 2010, in the midst of a golden period for Spanish football. 

Having won the Euros in 2008, their first major trophy since 1964, Spain were looking to bag the big one for the first time in their country's history. 

A team boasting the cream of the crop at the time in Xavi, Sergio Busquets and David Villa headed to Johannesburg to play the Netherlands at the first-ever finals held in Africa. 

It took one goal to settle a fiery encounter, as Andreas Iniesta struck four minutes from the end of extra time to hand Spain the trophy. 

The class of 2026 have now emulated the heroes of 16 years ago, after bagging a second triumph in the States.
