Alexander Isak (Liverpool)

Much was made over the Sweden striker’s controversial defection from Newcastle United to Liverpool this summer.

Now the dust has settled, all the focus is on the football and what Isak can bring to Arne Slot’s Premier League champions as they go in search of a seventh European Cup.

Isak scored 54 goals in 86 top-flight appearances – and 62 in 109 games overall – for Newcastle as he became of the best strikers in European football.

An attacker who combines skill, speed and ruthlessness in front of goal, Isak netted 27 times across all competitions in his final campaign at St James’ Park.

His move to Liverpool significantly boosts their hopes of Champions League glory this season.

Kylian Mbappé (Real Madrid)

There will be a debate to be had in 10 years’ time about how good Mbappé actually was.

But the Real Madrid striker is well and truly established as one of the greatest players of his generation.

The Frenchman enjoyed a stellar debut season in Madrid last term, scoring 31 in 34 La Liga appearances, but the Spanish giants endured their first trophyless campaign since 2020-21.

Now is it time for Madrid to seriously challenge for a trophy they have won a record 13 times – and Mbappé in their line-up, anything feels possible.

Scott McTominay (Napoli)

Nobody could have foreseen the impact that McTominay would make during his debut season at Napoli, surely not even McTominay himself.

The Scotland midfielder joined the Naples giants for £25.7million last summer after 22 years at Manchester United.

He not only helped Antonio Conte’s to win the title with 12 goals in 34 appearances, McTominay also won the Serie A Player of the Year award.

Now he will look to reprise his stellar form on the Champions League stage.

Cole Palmer (Chelsea)

Chelsea’s spending in recent times has been astronomical but the £40million they paid for Palmer continues to prove a snip.

Since arriving from Manchester City in the summer of 2023, the Mancunian has emerged as one of the finest talents in English football.

Earlier this year, he helped inspire Chelsea to Conference League success and then glory in the FIFA Club World Cup.

Now he will look to showcase his class in the Champions League for Enzo Maresca’s side.

Lamine Yamal (Barcelona)

The Spanish sensation turned 18 on July 13, by which time he had played 106 first-team games - 73 in La Liga, 23 in Europe, six in the Copa del Rey and four others.

Yamal is widely regarded as one of the finest prospects in world football and last season he helped Barcelona to a domestic treble.

The winger, who made his Barca debut as a 15-year-old in 2023, scored 18 goals and made 25 assists in 55 appearances as Barca won La Liga, the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup in Hansi Flick's first season as manager.

Could he be the main to inspire the Catalan giants to their first Champions League title since 2014-15?
