There's already little love lost between Liverpool and Manchester United, and Mark Lawrenson's latest comments on the current Red Devils squad could help ensure that animosity remains for some time to come.

The former longtime Liverpool deffender has harsh words for the state of the United team, as the Red Devils sputter to another unwhelming finish to the season.

While United manager Erik ten Hag has taken a lot of criticism for the club's current standing, Lawrenson feels the players should shoulder their fair share of the blame as well.

Speaking to Paddy Power, Lawrenson blasted both Ten Hag and the players for being predictable and easy to beat.

“I can understand why Jamie Carragher said Manchester United are the worst coached team in the league," Lawrenson said. "But they probably are the worst coached team! When you think about, you know exactly how every team is going to play against you and you know where their problems will be.

“The whole Manchester United thing just doesn’t ring true. I’d love to know what they do in training. I look at some of the players and they are just stealing a living – they really are. They’ve not been helped by the manager but they're stealing a living.

“If he gets beaten in the FA Cup final by Manchester City, he’s probably going to go but to be honest, in terms of where the team are, I just don’t get it.

“They’ve had loads of injuries, but you shouldn’t pick a team that is so open. Just pack it with four midfield players and make it difficult for the opposition.
