Former Premier League boss urges Liverpool to stick with Darwin Nunez

Liverpool may be gearing up to lift the Premier League trophy after a tremendous first season in charge for Arne Slot, but thoughts are already on next season.

The Reds may have won the title without any real rival, but it's set to be a big summer at Anfield, with players coming and going.

One player that has been linked with a move away from Merseyside is Darwin Nunez, who has endured a somewhat inconsistent season this year. However, speaking to BetVictor, Harry Redknapp believes Liverpool should persevere with the Uruguayan.

“I don’t think Liverpool should let Darwin Nunez go,” he said.

“He can be a real handful for defenders and is lightning quick; a centre-back’s worst nightmare. If they did let him go, I don’t think they’d necessarily need to find a replacement; Liverpool have a lot of depth in forward positions and there’s not a lot of options on the market at the moment.

“There’s Matheus Cunha at Wolves, who looks like he could be nearing a move to Manchester United, he’s a great player. But I’m not sure what kind of forward Liverpool are after, because Cunha isn’t an ‘out and out’ number nine.

“Everybody is looking for forwards, but where do you find them? Arsenal need to find a striker from somewhere, but who’s around? Harry Kane and Erling Haaland are the best in the field at the moment, but it’s very difficult to find world class players up front.”

Another striker Redknapp believes still has a lot to give the Premier League is Jamie Vardy. The former England hitman announced he's set to leave relegated Leicester at the end of the season, and after a standout performance this weekend, Redknapp reckons he's got another top-flight campaign in him.

"I know he only scored the one, but I’m making Jamie Vardy my star man, who knows if I’ll get the chance to do that again!" he added when picking his team of the weekend.

"Obviously, he’s leaving the club in the summer, but I still think he’s got another season in him at this level. You saw yet again what a fantastic finisher he is, he lashed that one past Aaron Ramsdale.

"He’s just 1 goal off 200 goals for Leicester now, I’d love to see him get that."
