Hellas Verona one step closer to Serie A relegation
Hellas Verona are closer to joining Cremonse and Sampdoria as the teams to be relegated from Serie A this season.
Verona had a shot at pulling themselves to safety on Sunday, the final day of action in Italy's top flight. However, they needed to find a result at the San Siro against AC Milan if they were to guarantee survival, but instead Verona fell 3-1 to the Rossoneri.
The match was as lopsided as expected given the teams' respective statures, although Verona did put themselves on level terms in the 72nd minute after going down 1-0 at the stroke of halftime.
However, that proved to be a false dawn for Verona, as they were unable to prevent a late outburst from Milan star Rafael Leão, who struck in the 85th minute and again in stoppage time to seal the result for the hosts and relegation for the visitors.
The side have one last chance at survival, as they will face Spezia in a relegation tie-breaker on June 11. Both teams finished the season with 31 points.
