Mourinho returns to Chelsea looking to break his shocking Stamford Bridge record

Taunts from the stands, touchline altercations and provocative gestures to his once adoring fans.

Stamford Bridge has not been a happy hunting ground for Jose Mourinho since leaving Chelsea for a second time in December 2015.

The Portuguese, who was first named Chelsea boss in 2004 and is the club's most decorated manager, has not led a visiting side to victory at Stamford Bridge in 15 years.

Mourinho's sole success in the away dugout came with Inter Milan in 2010, when he dumped Carlo Ancelotti's side out of the Champions League on his way to lifting the trophy.

He was re-appointed at Chelsea in June 2013 but was relieved of his duties seven months after claiming his third Premier League title with the club.

Mourinho returns to his old home with his new side, Benfica, on Tuesday night, so DAZN News looks back at his past six visits to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea 4-0 Manchester United - October 2016

Mourinho endured a nightmare first return to West London with Manchester United in the Premier League.

Pedro seized on a loose back pass to hand Chelsea the lead in the opening minute before Gary Cahill, Eden Hazard and N'Golo Kante added further insult to injury in a damning 4-0 defeat.

Mourinho shared a word or three with opposite number Antonio Conte at full-time in an otherwise disappointing autumn afternoon.

Chelsea 1-0 Manchester United - March 2017

United's fortunes did not improve on their next visit to Chelsea under Mourinho, whose side was knocked out of the FA Cup quarter-finals.

N'Golo Kante scored a second-half winner as Conte overcame Mourinho again, while the two managers had another heated exchange after United's Ander Herrera was sent off.

Some Chelsea fans labelled their former manager 'Judas' from the stands, but the Portuguese responded by raising three fingers in reference to the three titles he had won with the club.

Antonio Conte landed another blow over Mourinho in their third meeting at Stamford Bridge after Alvaro Morata's winner five minutes before the hour mark.

The Spaniard produced a stunning header to beat David de Gea and deliver all three points for the champions.

To add more salt to the wound, Morata had opted to sign for Conte after revealing he had offers to join Mourinho's United that summer.

Chelsea 2-2 Manchester United - October 2018

Ross Barkley's stoppage-time equaliser salvaged a point for Chelsea and denied Mourinho victory, in a moment which sparked unsavoury scenes at the end.

Antonio Rudiger gave Chelsea the lead, but Anthony Martial bagged a brace to hand United the advantage before Barkley's last-gasp finish.

Mourinho had to be restrained by stewards after not taking kindly to what he felt was an overexuberance from a member of Maurizio Sarri's backroom staff.

Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham - February 2020

In the month leading up to the UK's Covid-19 lockdown, Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge as manager of Chelsea's London rivals Tottenham.

To add even more spice to the derby, Mourinho was facing opposite number Frank Lampard, who starred as a midfielder under Mourinho and was so pivotal to his success at Stamford Bridge.

Olivier Giroud and Marcos Alonso grabbed the goals to hand apprentice Lampard victory over his old master, Mourinho.

Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham - November 2020

Mourinho's last visit to Stamford Bridge ended in a stalemate to extend his run without a victory at Stamford Bridge to six matches.

The game was played behind closed doors following the Covid-19 outbreak and the action on the field did little to inspire their return.

The goalless draw did, however, move Mourinho's Spurs to the top of the Premier League table. Mourinho would be sacked the following April after 17 months in charge.
