Lautaro Martinez lists a countryman as the best player he's ever played against.
Martinez took part in a live, interactive DAZN experience on Wednesday that allows fans to ask questions directly via a new, groundbreaking app feature powered by The Residency, connecting fans with their football heroes.
It was during this chat with fans that the 28-year-old revealed the superstar that he says is the best he's faced.
"Messi," Martinez wrote when asked about the best player he's played against by chat user kevser9206.
Of course, Martinez is Lionel Messi's Argentina teammate and has won several international trophies with the current Inter Miami star. That means they would have only faced off in club football, with the longtime Inter Milan forward having scored in their first meeting, a 2-1 win for Barcelona in 2019.
However, as both are attacking players, Martinez and Messi would not have interacted much during their handful of games against one another. As such, Martinez lists a Brazilian centre-back among the toughest defenders he's come up against.
When asked by user coverpanther7516 about the strongest defender he has faced in Serie A, Martinez simply replied "Bremer" in reference to the Juventus stalwart.
Racing Club
A reliable, and at times prolific, goal scorer for both club and country, Martinez has tasted success throughout his career. The Argentine is, of course, a World Cup winner after capturing football's ultimate prize at Qatar 2022, and he also boasts a pair of Copa America winners medals from his time with the Albiceleste.
With Inter, Martinez has won a pair of titles each in Serie A and Coppa Italia. However, there is still one major trophy that has evaded him so far.
When user eve_pg asked if there are still any dreams left for him to Martinez to fulfill, the Inter star replied, "the Champions League."
During his 10 seasons with the Nerazzurri, Martinez has played in two Champions League finals. Unfortunately for the player and club, Inter lost in both of those finals, leaving a notable spot open on Martinez's otherwise impressive trophy case.
After fans had the opportunity to message Lautaro Martinez, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Enzo Fernández and Trevoh Chalobah in recent weeks, on Thursday, May 7, it is the turn of Arsenal and Brazil defender Gabriel Magalhães.
The 28-year-old will share insights into his career and personal life, directly answering the questions fans pose to him live via The Residency on the DAZN app.
