Retired Premier League winner says Jeremie Frimpong 'suits Liverpool to the ground'
Joe Cole believes right-sided Bayer Leverkusen player Jeremie Frimpong will be a good fit at Liverpool.
Frimpong is reportedly on the verge of becoming the Reds' first summer signing, with the club set to trigger his £30 million release clause. Liverpool are eager to replace the outgoing Trent-Alexander Arnold, and Cole thinks the 24-year-old can fill in for the departing England international quite well.
Cole, who played for Liverpool after winning three Premier League titles with Chelsea, says Frimpong isn't an exact like-for-like replacement for Alexander-Arnold, but he backs the Dutch player to make the position his own.
“I wouldn’t say Jeremie Frimpong and Trent Alexander-Arnold are the same calibre, because I think Frimpong is a fantastic footballer, but he’s still got a long journey to go if he wants to match what Trent has done in his career," Cole said while speaking to Paddy Power. "It’s an interesting move because he has different attributes to Trent – he's an overlapper, he runs and dribbles well. He’s a winger playing full-back, really, and he’s a fantastic character.
“He suits Liverpool down to the ground, and with Mo Salah getting older as well, having legs around him is going to be even more important. I don’t expect anything less from Liverpool – it's a fantastic move.”
