Manchester United overcame an early deficit to walk away as 2-1 winners against Crystal Palace on Sunday, boosting the red-hot side into third place in the Premier League.

The Red Devils found themselves down a goal in the fourth minute at Old Trafford after Maxence Lacroix scored an opportunistic header to put the visitors in front, but Bruno Fernandes' 57th-minute penalty kick (following a Lacroix red card) and Benjamin Sesko's 66th-minute strike were enough to give Man United their seventh league victory over the last eight matches.

"It feels like a big result, we were behind and had to show some character," Fernandes told Sky Sports following the final whistle. "We were a little bit slow with the ball but it was a good three points and that is the aim."

United extended their Premier League unbeaten streak to 11 games, putting them within 10 points of league leaders Arsenal prior to the latter's match later Sunday against Chelsea. There probably isn't enough time left in the season for the Red Devils to mount a serious title challenge, but a berth in next year's Champions League is very much on the table — highlighting the club's stark turnaround under caretaker manager Michael Carrick.

When asked, Fernandes wouldn't elaborate where he thinks the side should be aiming to finish on the table, insisting instead that they simply need to keep pushing for the remainder of the campaign.

"There are a lot of games to go still and it is important that we don't feel that we are in the position that we need to be," the Man United captain said. "We need to make as many points as we can."
