'Guehi was a signing needed more than Isak!' - Emile Heskey on Liverpool's transfer window

Liverpool may have had one of the most impressive transfer windows in recent memory, but one former Red believes they may rue missing out on their final target.

Arne Slot's men were denied a deal in the last hours of Deadline Day for Marc Guehi, as Crystal Palace ultimately decided not to sell their captain to the Premier League champions.

The England defender would have joined a summer cast that included Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and record-breaking signing Alexander Isak, who all moved to Anfield in the window, but Emile Heskey believes Guehi should have been a top priority.

"Guehi was a signing needed more than Isak," he exclusively told DAZN News, courtesy of casino.org, who helps players find online casinos

"Liverpool are short of top centre-backs and any injuries to Van Dijk and then Liverpool could be in trouble.

"Van Dijk and Guehi would have made a superb partnership at centre back and believe once they got used to playing together, they would build a top relationship together.

"Guehi is a top centre back and you look at what he has achieved at Palace with their rise over the past few years, winning the FA Cup and also their away performances against top clubs.

"Defensively, Guehi is a top player and a centre back Liverpool could have done with for sure."

A record-busting £3 billion was spent by Premier League clubs this summer, and despite having a preference for Guehi, Heskey is in no doubt who the signing of the window is.

Sticking with the familiar, the former England hitman singled out Liverpool's purchase of Isak, but also earmarked two other strikers who have already had an impact on their new clubs.

Adding, "I have a bias, a former Liverpool striker, but Isak really is the real deal and has proven Premier League experience to fit straight into the team and perform.

"He had an incredible impact on Newcastle over the past few years and now can show this for Liverpool in a team challenging to defend their Premier League crown.

"I’m very excited to see him put on a Liverpool shirt and continue where he left off last season and score plenty of goals.

"A mention for Ekitike as well as he has been a great signing so far, scoring goals and had a hugely positive impact in Liverpool’s first two games of the season. He is quick, powerful, bags of energy and already making an impact.

"Finally, Joao Pedro at Chelsea has already started to pay back his transfer fee with his Club World Cup performances and he can be the target man Chelsea have missed since Costa and Drogba for Chelsea.

"They’ve needed someone to really lead the line in a powerful way and Pedro is showing he can be that striker and making a great impact already."
