National League Games this weekend: The new season kick-off live on DAZN

The National League returns with a bang this weekend, with a bumper afternoon of live coverage on DAZN, the home of the National League and National League North and South.

Games to watch from the National League this weekend

Woking vs Carlisle 

• Date: Saturday, August 9 
• Time:  3pm GMT 

For the first time since 2005, Carlisle United will be playing fifth-tier football and with it bring former Manchester City and Wales boss Mark Hughes leading the charge for a quick return to the Football League. 

Hughes stayed with the Cumbrians despite their relegation and they begin their National League campaign with a trip to Woking, hoping to lay down a marker on the opening day of the campaign. 

Neal Ardley's side won't make it easy, however, with the experienced National League boss looking to kick on in his first full season in charge of Woking following an impressive start last year. 

Gateshead vs Southend United 

• Date: Saturday, August 9 
• Time: 3pm GMT

The fixture list has thrown up a timely reminder of where both teams were on the last day of last season, when Southend travelled to Gateshead and stole the final play-off place from their hosts. 

The renew terms on the first day of the new campaign, with Southend having lost the Play-off final in the summer and Gateshead under new management after Alun Armstrong replaced Carl Magnay. 

Armstrong would love to get off to a winning start by burying the ghosts of last season's collapse, but equally, Shrimpers boss Kevin Maher knows his side need to bounce back from their Wembley disappointment. 

York City vs Sutton United 

• Date: Saturday, August 9 
• Time: 3pm GMT  

York City's 96 points wasn't enough to see them return to the Football League last season as they lost out to Barnet in the automatic promotion race before suffering more disappointment in the play-offs. 

Yet, despite some heavy hitters joining proceedings for 2025-26, York remain one of the favourites to finally get over the line and their sole aim will be getting out of the division. 

That journey begins with the visit of Sutton United, who will have their own play-off ambitions following a solid end to last season.
