National League games this weekend: Huge relegation clash as title race tightens

Truro City and Gateshead clash in the National League this weekend in a contest that will have significant implications for the relegation battle.

The two sides are well adrift of safety in the fifth tier, but both have picked up wins in recent weeks and will be striving to gather momentum towards the end of the season.

Rochdale's hiccup against Scunthorpe United in midweek means that their lead over York City at the top of the table is only one point, as nerves look to be creeping in for the league leaders.

With a full schedule of National League action, it promises to be another Saturday packed with irresistible drama, and DAZN News takes a closer look at the pick of the action.

Truro City vs. Gateshead

  • Date: Saturday, February 21
  • Time: 5.30pm (Available to watch live on DAZN)

While Truro and Gateshead are firm favourites to suffer relegation come the end of the season, both have the opportunity to flip the script on Saturday evening.

Rob Elliot's side picked up a rare away win over play-off contenders Halifax Town on Tuesday night, with goals from Kenton Richardson and Mark Beck spearheading them to a 2-1 victory.

For the Heed, it ended a remarkable 17-match losing streak in all competitions, while it was their first league win since late October.

Truro were defeated 2-0 by Boreham Wood in the National League Cup semi-finals on Tuesday evening, meaning that they have now lost their last three in all competitions.

John Askey's men were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Halifax Town last weekend and are two points ahead of Gateshead, but are eight points adrift of safety.

Aldershot Town vs. Scunthorpe United

  • Date: Saturday, February 21
  • Time: 3pm  (Available to watch 15 minutes after the full-time whistle on DAZN)

One of the standout National League fixtures this weekend comes from the EBB Stadium as rampant Aldershot Town host promotion contenders Scunthorpe United.

The Shots looked in serious trouble earlier in the season, but John Coleman has done a tremendous job to turn the club's fortunes around, and they are one of the form sides in the division.

Aldershot defeated Yeovil Town 2-1 on Tuesday night to stretch their unbeaten run to five games, while they now occupy 14th position and are six points clear of the drop zone.

Scunthorpe secured a valuable point away to Rochdale in midweek, with Emmanuel Dieseruvwe's penalty blunder grabbing the headlines at the Crown Oil Arena.

The Iron sit comfortably within the play-off places and can climb to fourth if they claim all three points, but they are without a win in their last three league games

Boreham Wood vs. Forest Green Rovers

  • Date: Saturday, February 21
  • Time: 3pm  (Available to watch 15 minutes after the full-time whistle on DAZN)

While this is the second meeting of the campaign between Boreham Wood and Forest Green Rovers, it may not be the last, as both appear nailed on for the National League play-offs.

Luke Garrard's side drew with Eastleigh last weekend before clinching their place in the National League Cup final in midweek, setting up a clash with West Ham United's under-21s.

The Wood are now unbeaten in their last three in all competitions and will be intent on building momentum ahead of a potential play-off run.

As for Forest Green, they are enduring their worst run of form this season, which has seen them drop to sixth position, effectively ending their title hopes.

Mark Hughes got the better of his former player Robbie Savage as Carlisle United defeated Rovers 3-1 last Saturday, and they have now won only one of their last seven league matches.
