Nico O'Reilly had a match to remember for Manchester City on Saturday, scoring twice to lead the club to a 3-1 victory over visiting Plymouth Argyle in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
The Sky Blues had to come from behind to defeat the Championship side, as Argyle claimed an early lead via Maksym Talovierov's 38th-minute goal. The euphoria of leading at the Etihad Stadium was short-lived for the visitors however, as O'Neill struck in first-half stoppage time and again in the 76th minute, with Kevin De Bruyne's 90th-minute goal sealing the result for the home side.
It was a dominant display from City despite the relatively low scoreline, as Argyle never managed a shot outside of Talovierov's early goal, while the hosts made 29 attempts at the other end, including nine on target.
For O'Reilly, who is still breaking into the squad as a 20-year-old homegrown midfielder, scoring twice for his childhood club in an FA Cup match while lining up as a left-back is as good a cup moment as has been written.
“It’s an amazing feeling to score, especially at a club like this - the team I grew up playing for," O'Reilly told BBC Match of the Day.
"It was a very tough game, very physical, very direct. We knew it was going to be and we tried to match it. We got the job done and I'm happy.
"I don’t mind playing anywhere. Wherever the gaffer puts me, I’m happy with. I want to get more minutes, keep my head down and keep going."
As for the significance of the FA Cup, O'Reilly stressed that it's a trophy that Man City are serious about winning this season.
"It's always important," he told ITV. "Big competition. All the teams in England play and we want to win it."
