Matchweek 6 of the Premier League still has one more fixture to go on Monday, but the weekend's action is now finished and we can look back at a wild set of matches from Saturday and Sunday.

This includes the surprising ending in the battle of undefeated teams, as well as a number of other upsets in a topsy turvy slate of games.

Here are some of the bigger talking points from Matchweek 6.

Liverpool beaten by last remaining undefeated side

It was going to take something special for Liverpool to finally drop points this season after winning their first five matches of the 2025-26 season, and that's where Crystal Palace comes in.

Palace were the other undefeated side through five rounds of league action but were hardly getting the same headlines as the defending champions were, mostly because of the number of draws in their record.

However, on Saturday Palace struck early and late to secure a 2-1 victory over the visiting Reds, leaving Oliver Glasner's side as the final team without a loss in the league.

The victory came despite Liverpool's latest attempts at snatching a late result, this time through Federico Chiesa's 87th-minute equaliser, but Eddie Nketiah restored the lead for good seven minutes into stoppage and Palace sent a very loud message to the rest of the Premier League in the process.

Another forgettable Man United performance

Manchester United headed into the weekend with the opportunity to put together back-to-back league victories for the first time this season, following last weekend's 2-1 win over Chelsea.

Instead, they delivered another stinker on Saturday at Brentford, with Igor Thiago scoring twice in the opening 20 minutes for the Bees. The Red Devils pulled to within one via Benjamin Sesko in the 26th minute, and they could have tied the match if not for a missed Bruno Fernandes penalty in the 76th. The Bees delivered the dagger in stoppage time and Ruben Amorim will have to continue to wait for his team to win consecutive matches under his stewardship.

The turning point in Saturday's match likely came from Fernandes' missed penalty, which probably would have changed the final moments of the match had he scored. However, the Man United captain missed a spot-kick for the sixth time since he moved to the Premier League in 2020, with no other player missing as many in that period of time.

Chelsea in crisis?

Chelsea's bright start to the Premier League season feels like a distant memory at this point, with their latest disappointment coming in the form of a 3-1 loss to visitors Brighton on Saturday.

That makes it back-to-back league losses and zero wins in three games for the Blues, who are suddenly very beatable and nowhere near the side who ruled the roost at the FIFA Club World Cup over the summer.

If not for their midweek Carabao Cup victory over third tier Lincoln City, Chelsea would be winless in their last five across all competitions.

Will the real Aston Villa please stand up

What a difference a week makes.

Aston Villa were languishing near the bottom of the table just over a week ago, with no wins in their first four league matches. It took Villa until Matchweek 5 to score their first goal in league play, and even that came against a 10-man Sunderland side who can hardly be described as world beaters.

Still, Matty Cash's second-half equaliser in the 1-1 draw at Sunderland seven days ago might have been the turning point, as Villa rediscovered how to actually score goals.

Villa followed that draw up with a 1-0 win over Bologna in Europa League on Thursday, and then on Sunday they fought back from an early deficit to defeat Fulham, 3-1.

Sunday's was their first league victory of the season, and extends Villa's undefeated streak to three games across all competitions.

There's still a very long way to go before Unai Emery's men are where they expected to be at this point, but this past week feels much more like the "real" Aston Villa than the side that stumbled through the first four weeks of the campaign.

Arsenal the new late show?

With Liverpool losing this week and no longer relying on late heroics to snatch victories in the dying moments of matches, the title of "cardiac kids" may have been transferred to their biggest rivals in the title chase.

Arsenal were well on the way to a frustrating loss at St. James' Park on Sunday as Newcastle repelled the visitors' overwhelming possession and shot advantages for nearly 83 minutes, with Nick Woltemade's first-half goal against the run of play looking to be the difference.

But the Gunners never stopped pushing, and in true Arsenal form it was a pair of headers that saw them claim all three points as Mikel Merino's 84th-minute strike paved the way for Gabriel's nodded game-winner in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

That was Arsenal's second straight league match with a result-changing goal in stoppage time, following Gabriel Martinelli's 93rd-minute dramatics against Manchester City last week, and it pulls them to within two points of Liverpool at the top of the table.
