The Premier League brought March to a close with a shortened set of games in Matchweek 31, with just eight matches on the docket due to the Carabao Cup final.

And while the league's top two teams were busy battling for a cup, there were still plenty of impactful narratives from the weekend's action in England's top division.

Here are some of the bigger talking points from the weekend.

Another draw for Bournemouth

The Cherries extended their Premier League unbeaten streak to a whopping 11 games on Friday when they drew 2-2 with visiting Manchester United.

Such a run without a loss should lead to a massive rise in the standings, but most of Bournemouth's streak was filled with draws as they continue to tread water without actually losing games.

Andoni Iraola's side are in 13th place with seven matches remaining, effectively ending their European dreams for next season. They are sitting on a league-leading 15 draws on the season, three more than any other side in the English top flight. Even converting a handful of those draws into wins would have put the Cherries within striking distance of the Champions League, but instead they'll almost surely have to settle for midtable mediocrity.

As for Man United, they squandered a chance to gain on their crosstown rivals Manchester City in second place, but thanks to losses from Liverpool and Chelsea they still inched closer to a Champions League return.

Liverpool and Chelsea slip up

As mentioned, both Liverpool and Chelsea were on the losing end in the most recent round of matches, with both losing ground on Man United and Aston Villa in the race for the Champions League.

Each side have had their struggles of late, with Chelsea losing three of their last four games in the league and Liverpool now winless in three.

Their listlessness in the run-in has brought pressure upon their respective head coaches, as European football hangs in the balance.

Tottenham one step closer to relegation

Every week seems to bring a new low for Spurs, who are now winless in 12 Premier League matches after getting thumped 3-0 by visiting Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

This defeat is especially egregious given who it comes against, as Forest are one of the clubs embroiled in the relegation fight alongside Tottenham. A good performance against the Tricky Trees would've boded well for the North Londoners, but instead they allowed themselves to get run over at home and put themselves one step closer to the drop.

The only saving grace for Tottenham is that West Ham also lost on Sunday, keeping Spurs out of the relegation zone as the league now pauses for the international break.

But they'll not be able to rely on others to keep them from disaster — at some point Tottenham will have to win a game or two.
