The competition once again begins with the new league phase after it was introduced last season, and matchday one sees some huge games across three nights, including Paris Saint-Germain beginning the defence of their trophy against Atalanta.
2025 was a historic year for the French club as they lifted the Champions League aloft for the first time in their history after defeating Inter Milan with a 5-0 thrashing in the final. Now the task is to see if they can double down on their dominance and retain the famous trophy.
They already have one trophy in the bag following their UEFA Super Cup win and they'll be favourites to go all the way in 2026.
That defence begins against an Atalanta team under new management for the first time in over a decade. Ivan Juric has replaced the legendary figure of Gian Piero Gasperini and has some big shoes to fill.

Gianluca Scamacca - Atalanta
One off the conveyor belt of strikers who struggled to make his mark at West Ham, Scamacca is back and firing for Atalanta after a season out with a serious ACL injury.
The big Italian offers a big presence in attack and will be expected to try and hold up the ball and keep Atalanta flowing as they try to keep the European champions at bay.
