Tuesday night - September 16 - represents a fresh start for Real Madrid as they look to put a poor 2024-25 campaign behind them. What better way to do that than by winning their 16th European Cup.
Their Champions League pursuit begins against French side Marseille, live on DAZN in Spanish language, as the competition once again starts with the new league phase after it was introduced last season.
It's a new era for the Spanish giants after Carlo Ancelotti left last season and has since been replaced by former midfielder Xabi Alonso , fresh off his success in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen.
Alonso's journey begins with a visit from Roberto Di Zerbi's Marseille, who finished runners-up in Ligue 1 last season and boast a squad with familiar names such as Mason Greenwood, Neal Maupay and Benjamin Pavard.

Real Madrid vs Marseille will take place at The Bernabeu , located in Madrid.
One of the most famous arenas in football, following its extensive renovation in 2023, the stadium now has a capacity of 83,186 and has hosted the final of this tournament four times.
The Frenchman scored 44 goals for Real last season to establish himself as the main man in Madrid following his move from PSG.
He's picked up right where he left off this campaign too, and he'll have eyes on helping himself to a first-ever Champions League medal in 2026.
The former Arsenal man may now be in the December of his career, but he's still as dangerous as ever in front of goal.
He's already off the mark for the season and his explosiveness and experience could be the difference for Marseille in Madrid.

Real Madrid are experts at these routine Champions League round one games, and while Marseille will present a threat, the Spanish side should have too much for them.
