A Champions League title will go a long way in Jude Bellignham's pursuit of a Ballon d'Or award, according to Sergio Aguero.

Bellingham has enjoyed a standout first season in Madrid with 23 goals, helping the club capture another La Liga crown. The 20-year-old is gearing up to play in his first Champions League final next month, as Real will face Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium for continental supremacy.

All the stars seemed to be lining up for the young English player to be one of the prime candidates for the Ballon d'Or, but Aguero believes his most recent Champions League games may have lowered his stock a bit.

Speaking to Stake.com, the retired former Atletico Madrid, Manchester City and Barcelona forward said that while Bellingham's overall body of work this season will speak louder than a few sub-par matches, it would do the youngster a lot of good if he plays a starring role in the upcoming final.

“It's hard to evaluate a player for three or four matches," Aguero said. "He's had an amazing season at Madrid - his first at that - and he's made it clear: he can wear the colours confidently, with all their weight, and played a key role in many matches.

“He didn't shine in the face-off against City, but he was instrumental in one of Madrid's goals. The Ballon d'Or stuff... we'll have to wait and see. Winning the Champions League matters a lot in that. We'll have to wait.”
