'The top two will battle it out again' former English import predicts Serie A winners

The Serie A resumes this weekend after a brief interval for the international break, and matchday three will see a first clash between the expected title rivals when Juventus host Inter on Saturday.

The race for the championship has been tighter than in any other league in recent seasons, with Napoli's triumph in 2025 meaning no side has managed to retain the crown in the past five seasons.

The usual suspects are expected to be vying for top spot again, but speaking exclusively to DAZN News, thanks to Cafe Casino, former Serie A player turned pundit Tony Dorigo believes there are only two sides who are legitimate title contenders.

"I don't quite see a clear favourite. Napoli and Inter, I think, are the two that will kind of battle it out," Dorigo said.

"Inter, you look at their squad that they've got, players they've got, I think last season, they'll be disappointed. There's no doubt.

"And Napoli, can you do it again? That's always the big question. You've done it once. Can you now? You are the ones there to be knocked off that perch and Inter will be angry, I think, to try and get it back.
So I see those two.

"After that, you know, Juventus are going through various throws of different managers in different ways, different playing. And so I still think they're going to be a little way off.

"And Milan, unfortunately, Milan, like the previous years, are still trying to find a combination that kind of works. And the pressure is always on them, isn't it? They have huge pressure on them. So I think that will be, again, a struggle for them.

"But I think, yeah, Napoli and Inter will be joint favourites for me."

Dorigo sampled life in Italy during his playing days, spending a season with Torino in the mid-nineties and now covers the league as part of the DAZN commentary team.

As a British player who experienced the league, he's pleased to see so many more Brits now starring in Serie A and admits he can't believe the impact that some of the names have made.

Adding, "We've got a lot of British interest, because now, which is crazy, you have the likes of Milan picking off players that can't quite get into English teams for their first team, like the Loftus-Cheeks of this world. So, yeah, it's really good to see.

"You've got the likes of Napoli and what Scott McTominay has done. I mean, if you told me that, you told me that three, four years ago, you would have blown my mind. I'm thinking, what are you talking about?

"You know, McTominay, player of the season, winning the title for Napoli. But it's a great story. It is a fantastic story.

"And now there's Cremonese, Vardy at Cremonese, I mean, my mind is getting blown every week."
