Sixth-tier Weston-super-Mare reach FA Cup third round for first time

PA

Weston-super-Mare reached the third round of the FA Cup for the first time in their 138-year history with a 2-0 win at Chelmsford.

Louis Britton struck twice in the second half, after 62 and 88 minutes, to settle a lively battle between two sixth-tier National League South sides.

Chelmsford went close to taking the lead in front of a record 3,628 crowd at the Dunmow Group Community Stadium when Jason Adigun’s shot crashed off a post, while Weston captain Emlyn Lewis forced a fine save from Chris Haigh.

Britton broke the deadlock by volleying home Dominic Bernard’s cross and, after Chelmsford midfielder Taylor Clark was sent off four minutes from time for a high foot on Charlie Cummins, converted his second from close range to send the Seagulls into round three.
