With the international break in full swing, this is the perfect time to take stock of the first three weeks of the 2025-26 Premier League season.

There have been some surprises during the opening weeks of the campaign, along with some expected results and everything in between.

As players prepare to represent their countries in another round of international fixtures, here are three of the bigger lessons we've learned in the Premier League so far.

Liverpool are favourites to repeat as champions

Yes, it's still extremely early in the campaign and lots could happen between now and the end of the season, but Liverpool have given no reason to doubt them as favourites to win back-to-back league titles.

The Reds entered the international break as the only side to win all three of their matches thus far, including last weekend's top-of-the-table clash against Arsenal.

And they've just come off their biggest transfer window ever, landing Alexander Isak at the deadline to add to a summer haul that included Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and others. Their spending spree has raised expectations for the club, but so far they've handled the brighter lights nicely.

The scary part? They haven't even looked close to their best yet.

Newcastle, Fulham, Aston Villa and Wolves all went into the break without a victory to their names, setting off alarm bells among those teams' fanbases.

Unsurprisingly, they occupy the bottom four spots in the standings, with Wolves in the basement with three losses.

However, the other three sides all have reasons for hope, be it the make-up of their squad or their deadline day deals.

Newcastle have once again opened their wallets and should rise up the table when the league resumes. Fulham have midtable written all over them. And Villa, despite not yet scoring a goal, are too good a side to remain near the bottom of the league for too long.

That leaves Wolves, who have looked second-best in all three of their matches and have shown that they will give up a lot of goals. Vitor Pereira has his work cut out for him to get the side looking like anything but the relegation candidates that they currently are.

Amid Manchester City's early season struggles, it's easy to overlook the fact that Erling Haaland is once again on top of the Premier League scoring charts.

The Norwegian star had a so-called "down" year last season with 22 goals — placing him third behind Isak and Mohamed Salah after two straight campaigns as the league's goals king. The 25-year-old appeared to struggle with a changing role under Pep Guardiola as Man City looked for ways to keep from dropping out of the top four.

This season has started largely the same for Man City, as they have just three points from their first three matches, but Haaland appears to be back to his dangerous self with three goals to his name already.
