Pressure mounting on Slot, Arsenal host old adversary Kane, and Spurs face huge PSG test

The second round of fixtures in Matchday 5 of this season's Champions League takes place tonight.

Once again, there are some huge games with Liverpool desperate to avoid another defeat and Arsenal and Bayern Munich locking horns at the Emirates.

Here, DAZN News' Ross Heppenstall picks out five key storylines from Wednesday's nine games.

When does a drama become a full-blown crisis?

It is eight defeats in 11 games in all competitions now for Liverpool ahead of tonight's visit of PSV.

Saturday's shocking 3-0 surrender at home to Nottingham Forest pretty much ended any hopes of the Reds retaining the cherished 20th league title they won last season.

There can be no doubt that pressure is mounting on Arne Slot, but his men are well placed in the Champions League.

Having won three of their opening four games in the competition, the under-fire Dutchman will hope that victory over PSV can reignite the Reds' faltering season.

But Slot needs to stop the rot – and fast – with another loss tonight simply unthinkable.

Can Bayern stop the Gunners' charge?

The Champions League's current top two teams meet at the Emirates tonight as Arsenal host Bayern Munich and it promises to be an occasion to savour.

The Gunners looked like Premier League champions in waiting as they tore Tottenham to shreds in Sunday's north London derby.

Not since the 2003-04 season have they ruled the roost in English football, but their Champions League form has encouraged hopes they could also be crowned king of Europe for the first time.

The Gunners have suffered some near misses in Europe's premier competition down the years, losing at the semi-final stage to eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain last term.

Could this be their time? Overcoming the reigning Bundesliga champions – and six-time European Cup winners – would be a huge statement of intent.

Kane ready to knife his old enemy again

Nullifying the threat of Harry Kane could be crucial to Arsenal's hopes of victory tonight.

The England captain has made a habit of scoring against the Gunners, netting 14 times against them for Tottenham in north London derbies.

He also found the net against Mikel Arteta's side when Bayern faced them in the Champions League quarter-final two seasons ago.

Kane is on fire right now and scored his 26th goal of the season in Saturday's 6-2 home win over Freiburg.

The former Spurs favourite - who has scored 15 times in 21 appearances against the Gunners - could take some stopping at the Emirates this evening.

To be Frank, Spurs need a huge response

Tottenham's abject 4-1 surrender against Arsenal on Sunday turned up the heat on Thomas Frank.

The way he set up his side at the Emirates gave the impression he was more focused on trying not to lose rather than going for the win.

That pragmatic approach sent all the wrong signals from a club whose fans demand entertaining football.

Now the Dane takes his side to Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain and he needs a response to the derby mauling.

It is Totteham's toughest yet in Europe this season, where they remain unbeaten after four games.

Inter aiming to bounce back from derby agony

Healing the scars of last season's 5-0 Champions League final defeat to PSG will take some doing for Inter Milan.

But a quick glance at the current table shows the Nerazzurri as one of only three sides with a 100% record after four games.

The other two sides are Arsenal and Bayern Munich, so they are in good company.

Inter lost the Milan derby to AC Milan 1-0 on Sunday but remain firmly in the Serie A title race – three points behind leaders Roma – and now head to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League tonight.

It will be their toughest examination yet, but victory in Spain would be a huge ringing endorsement of Cristian Chivu's side in their quest for European glory.
