Who will sign Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon as interest mounts?

With Newcastle United's underwhelming season complete, it feels only a matter of time until winger Anthony Gordon secures a move away from St James' Park.

The Magpies signed the 25-year-old for a deal worth up to £45million in 2023, beating Chelsea to his signature, and he has developed into one of the country's leading left-wingers.

While he missed the end of the season through injury, Gordon has been selected in Thomas Tuchel's England squad and will challenge Marcus Rashford for a starting berth.

Bayern Munich have been heavily linked with a move for the winger, but now that he has a new suitor in Barcelona, where might he end up next?

Barcelona join race for Anthony Gordon

Given that Rashford has spent the season on loan with Barca, it is ironic that the Spanish giants have initiated talks with Gordon, according to transfer expert Alex Crook.

He reports that the club's sporting director, Deco, has held those talks with the winger and that Barca value him at around £60million while Newcastle are holding out for more.

Rashford has almost doubled Gordon's league goal contributions this term, but the latter has taken the Champions League by storm this year, ranking as the competition's joint second top scorer behind Harry Kane.

One of the obvious questions regarding a potential move to Barca is whether the Spanish club could afford such a deal for Gordon and whether they could match Newcastle's valuation.

Considering that Barcelona's loan deal for Rashford includes an option to buy, and that would likely be far cheaper than Gordon's price, they may be tempted to pursue the man who has served them well this season.

Could Bayern Munich land Gordon?

The German giants have been linked with Gordon for some time now as they look to bolster an already frightening attack consisting of Kane, Michael Olise and Luis Diaz.

Bayern Munich are in a much healthier position than Barca, meaning that meeting Newcastle's valuation would not be an issue should they decide to pursue a deal.

This transfer would clearly appeal to the Magpies as it would mean they would avoid selling the winger to a division rival, which could hamper their hunt for European football next term.

One challenge facing Gordon would be how he ousts Diaz in Vincent Kompany's starting XI, but he has the confidence to do so and could also play in Kane's position if needed.

A move to the Bavarian club would almost certainly guarantee domestic titles, while they are in a strong position to contest for the Champions League again next term.

Which English clubs may be interested in the England winger?

Gordon would surely have his admirers in his homeland, but as previously mentioned, the Magpies would rather sell him to a foreign side.

Chelsea missed out on the 25-year-old three years ago and have been linked with him since, but with no European football to their name combined with his price tag, it could prove difficult to land him.

Arsenal may well be in the market this summer as their left-wing is a weaker position, with Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard decent options, but not on Gordon's level.

Then there is the club he supports, Liverpool, who have the power to spend big again this summer, especially with star man Hugo Ekitike out injured until around New Year.

The strongest links have come from abroad, though, and given that would suit Newcastle, it seems he is more likely to be playing for an overseas giant next term.
