Wednesday night, October 15, sees the start of an historic event as London hosts Japan's most iconic sport for the first time in 34 years, as the Grand Sumo Tournament comes to the UK.
The Japan Sumo Association event is a five-day spectacle at the Royal Albert Hall from Wednesday, October 15 to Sunday 19 October, 2025 and is live and FREE to watch on DAZN worldwide, excluding Japan.
Featuring over 40 elite rikishi (sumo wrestlers), including potential top-division stars like Onosato and Hoshoryu, this event will showcase the sport’s 1,500 years of ritual, ceremony and power.
The iconic Royal Albert Hall, more used to hosting concerts, will be transformed with an authentic clay dohyō and sacred roof, creating a “temple of sumo” experience for fans to enjoy and marks only the second time in history that a full Grand Sumo basho has been held outside Japan.

The tournament will be held at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England.
A world famous venue known for hosting world-class concerts and sporting events, it will be transformed with 11 tonnes of imported clay to construct a regulation-size sumo dohyō.
The Hall seats around 5,200 fans, and this marks its first sumo event since 1991.
The Grand Sumo Tournament will see the best Makuuchi rikishi (wrestlers) from Japan in attendance, with approximately 20 bouts of Sumo wrestling per day.
Top level Sumo division wrestlers will be competing across the five days to win the coveted title of Grand Champion.
Sunday, October 19 October will be Finals Day. As well as crowning the overall victor of the tournament, prizes are also awarded to those rikishi whose performances are deemed particularly noteworthy across the tournament.
Each of the five event days will also feature a dohyō-iri (ring entrance ceremony).
The duration of each fight will vary on what happens in, but typically a bout lasts around 4 minutes.
Each bout has a ritual and ceremony beforehand.
