Olympic medalist and former world champion Amir Khan has called for Manny Pacquiao to retire from boxing immediately after his clash with WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios.

After four years away from the ring, Pacquiao will lace up the gloves once again and challenge for world honours when he faces Barrios this Saturday in Las Vegas.

With Pacquiao 16 years older than Barrios, there are concerns as to what effects this world title fight could have on the former regardless of the result.

Khan is one of those who was not afraid to express his opinion on Pacquiao's imminent return and speaking to Genting Casino, who offer the latest live casinos, he explained why the Filipino should stay retired.

“Pacquiao doesn't stand the chance at all against any of the other champions if he wins. I think he just then needs to probably call it a day again after the fight," Khan said,

“He can say he came back and won it, but then gave it up again and gave someone else a chance to fight for it. That'd be nice.

“He’s always got one punch away from getting hurt.  I think it's just a bit silly doing that [continuing to fight].  Look, financially he's secure, and he’s always one punch away from getting hurt, and you're not going to recover as quickly as normal.

“I think he needs to just really put a stop to it really. Or maybe if he doesn't want to keep on fighting, then needs to fight on the same level as him.”

Khan in the past has often been linked with a fight against Pacquiao, but for one reason or another, this never became a reality with the British star calling time on his boxing career in 2022 after being stopped by Kell Brook.
