Andre Ward was one of his generation's best fighters.

Andre Ward has been retired from boxing for over six years but his name still features prominently when it comes to comparing fighters around his weight class.

After finishing his career unbeaten, Ward walked away with a glowing legacy as he reigned in two divisions and beat some excellent names including Carl Froch, Mikkel Kessler, and Sergey Kovalev.

One name missing from Ward’s record is that of Canelo Alvarez who was operating around middleweight when Ward was up at 175lbs.

A bout between the pair was mentioned frequently but Ward believes that Canelo wanted nothing to do with him despite Canelo’s eagerness to always test himself against the best.

“Nah, I don't think he would have fought me,” said Ward when speaking on Stephen A. Smith’s YouTube channel

“My name was never mentioned with Canelo Alvarez until he fought a common opponent, and he fought Sergey Kovalev. Kovalev, I don't want to say he was shot, but he was on his way out the door.

“He wasn't the 'Krusher' at that point in time. That's a strategic move, and that's what Canelo does.”
