With 66 professional fights under his belt, you would think that Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez had 'completed' boxing .
However, this Saturday, May 3, Alvarez will make history as he bids to become an undisputed champion for a second time at super middleweight against William Scull, the IBF titleholder .
Not only will it be the accolades that make this fight a major event, but also the fact that Alvarez will be fighting outside of the United States or Mexico for the first time in his career.
These are just two of many reasons why boxing fans need to watch Alvarez's fight this weekend, live and exclusive on DAZN PPV .
Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has never been afraid to challenge for greatness and the upcoming fight with Wiilliam Scull is no different.
After becoming the undisputed super middleweight champion in 2021, boxing politics saw Alvarez lose the IBF title, but now he bids to regain the historic red belt.
If successful, Alvarez will become just the fourth boxer to be an undisputed champion on two occasions, joining the likes of Terence Crawford, Oleksandr Usyk and Naoya Inoue.
In the sun and heat of Riyadh there will be a huge Terence Crawford shaped shadow.
Canelo vs Crawford is what the world wants and what Riyadh Season plans to host.
Will Crawford be in the audience, will it distract Canelo, and will this fight finally happen?
Mark Robinson/Matchroom BoxingWith this contest being the first of four-fight deal with Riyadh Season, the Saudi Arabian capital will become Canelo Alvarez's second home for the foreseeable future.
For this fight, Alvarez will be away from his passionate fans and he will also be fighting in the early hours of Sunday morning in Riyadh to cater for a US prime time audience.
It will be interesting to see how Alvarez adjusts to the time difference and change in setting, and whether this could play into Scull's hands.
IBF super middleweight champion William Scull holds a significant height and reach advantage over Canelo, but it's whether he can make these count come fight night.
Less known to the wider boxing fandom, Alvarez's opponent has often been the forgotten man. That may work in Scull's favour.
With Canelo experiencing a different type of fight environment, on a different continent, with Crawford as a distraction, this could be the perfect time to fight the Mexican and cause an upset.
With there likely to be a lot of fanfare surrounding Alvarez's debut fight in Riyadh, Scull can instead focus on the task at hand.... that's spoiling the party.
Fans can find out if indeed Scull can spoil Cinco de Mayo weekend on May 4 live on DAZN PPV .
