Cristobal Lorente and Nathaniel Collins fought to a split draw back in October. Six months later, on Friday, they ran it back live on DAZN from The SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.
There was no question who won this time around as Lorente survived a sixth-round knockdown to win by split decision (116-111, 115-112x2).
The fight was a stalemate until the sixth round, when Collins dropped Lorente with a straight right hand.
Momentum had looked to belong to Collins. The knockdown woke Lorente (21-0-3, 8 KOs) up, as with 45 seconds remaining in the round, the Italian turned it from there on out. Lorente overwhelmed and took Collins' (17-1-1, 8 KOs) spirit and unbeaten record with a relentless attack that Collins had no answer for to win the last six rounds of the fight to become the mandatory challenger for WBC featherweight champion Bruce "Shu Shu" Carrington.
Sam Giley needed a win in the worst way, coming off a draw to Gideon Onyenani and suffering his first pro loss to Ishmael Davis in November.
The Englishman gets himself back on track with a TKO win over Aston Brown at 1:35 of the fifth round.
Giley overpowered Brown from the start. But to Brown's credit, he was eating the shots well, but they were starting to take their toll by the time round five came around, as he had swelling under and above his right eye.
About 30 seconds into the fifth, Giley blasted an overhand right, which stopped Brown in his tracks. A body shot followed by a right uppercut and sharp left hook snapped Brown’s head back slightly. Giley sensed he had Brown ripe for the picking, started trash-talking Brown, who started dishing it back.
Giley (19-2-1, 10 KOs) landed another body shot to set up a glancing right uppercut, and a straight right sent Brown to the canvas.
Brown made it back to his feet but didn’t last too much longer. Giley uncorked a barrage of shots with Brown not intelligently defending himself, and the referee had seen enough.
