Sam Noakes has navigated his career with routine ease so far, but the lightweight prospect faces a significant test this weekend when he goes for world title glory against Abdullah Mason .
Like Noakes, Mason has also impressed on his rise to this position, and the Ohio fighter is seen as one of the brightest hopes in American boxing after being guided expertly by Bob Arum’s Top Rank group.
The fascinating encounter is part of a huge show, live on DAZN , that will see many of boxing’s biggest names collide in several important clashes that could shape boxing’s immediate future in 2026.
Mason and Noakes are looking to become big players in the 135lbs division and victory for either man could land them multiple high profile bouts next year, with high profile names like Shakur Stevenson and Gervonta Davis operating closely to the business end at lightweight.
For Noakes, this bout sees him move from British level to world in just the space of one year as he was being opposed by Ryan Walsh in 2024 when defending domestic honours. The Kent man has been brought along steadily by Frank Warren, but did he expect to be fighting for a world title in what will be only his 18th fight.
“If you'd have said when I turned over that I’d be fighting for a world title after 18 fights, people would've said ‘get out of here,’” said Noakes during an exclusive sit-down with DAZN News .
“It’s definitely come at the right time for me. How can anybody anticipate what’s happening now? I’m flying out to Saudi on a stacked card. Some of the biggest names in boxing and I’m mixing it with the best.”
With Mason tipped for superstardom by those backing him and his impressive stoppage record also gaining some attention, Noakes is fully aware of what is waiting for him when he steps into the ring in Saudi Arabia.
One reference point mentioned by Noakes was Mason’s up and down battle with Yohan Vazquez at the backend of last year.
Mason was down twice in the opening session, but he did demonstrate some serious resilience to bounce back and win the fight in following round.
Noakes has done a thorough job preparing for this major opportunity, and combining his own abilities with Mason’s weaknesses, he believes he will become world champion on Saturday night.
“I’m planning on winning,” stated Noakes emphatically. “There are chinks in the armour. Look, he’s a great fighter and there’s a lot of things you have to get past, but if there’s one fighter who can get to him then it will be me. That’s the plan – get in there and do what I do best.”
