Daniel Dubois has vowed to bring “chaos” to the ring when he takes on Oleksandr Usyk for a second time on Saturday night with the undisputed heavyweight title now at stake.
The contest, which will take place at Wembley Stadium and broadcast live on DAZN PPV , will pit a pound-for-pound great in Usyk, who last year had back-to-back wins against Tyson Fury , against a Dubois who is at the peak of his boxing powers.
Despite losing to Usyk in their initial encounter in Poland back in 2023, Dubois has since revitalised his career with stunning knockout victories over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and fellow Brit Anthony Joshua in the last year and a half.
With 38-year-old Usyk nearing the twilight of his illustrious tenure in the heavyweight division, 27-year-old Dubois believes his moment has arrived as he aims to become the first undisputed British champion since Lennox Lewis in 2000.
In a joint face off interview with Usyk for DAZN ahead of this weekend’s eagerly anticipated showdown, Dubois was asked if it was his time.
“You could say that – I don’t want to even just put it down to him being an old man,” he replied.
“I’ve got to prove myself and bring chaos in the ring.
“With what I bring, and the force I have, that will be what’s needed.
“But I stand more to gain – he’s at the end of his career so I stand more to gain from a win.
“Getting all the belts is the start for me really.”
Asked how he believed he could prevail against Usyk, Dubois declared: “Confidence – I’m ready to seize victory.
“Seriously, I’ve worked hard for it and now I want to cause chaos in the ring and reward it with a victory. That’s my mindset.”
Dubois says he has made huge strides since suffering defeat to Usyk in Wroclaw in August 2023.
“I’ve come on since then, I’ve resurrected myself and feel ready for a new beginning,” he said.
“I’m ready for a great fight and I’m excited for it.”
Usyk, meanwhile, dismissed suggestions that Dubois was the hardest puncher he has faced, putting Derek Chisora in that category.
The Ukrainian said he was ready to put in a “wonderful” performance at Wembley and was still hungry to box, saying the sport was like “oxygen” to him.
But Dubois goes into this weekend’s rematch in fine form and he added: “That’s down to my hunger and desire.
“As a fighter you want to become the best and I feel like I’m ready for anyone in the world. I’m going to enjoy this fight, so let’s see.”
