Pero vs Thompson - Eddie Hearn makes exciting prediction for heavyweight clash

Promoter Eddie Hearn is not expecting tonight's heavyweight clash between Lenier Pero and Jordan Thompson in Florida to go past six rounds. 

Pero, a highly regarded amateur, is ranked number three with the WBA despite not facing anyone of note, meanwhile Thompson is making his debut at heavyweight. 

For Britain's Thompson, it's his first fight in two years after suffering a brutal knockout loss to cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia and it will be an upset if he can topple the Cuban. 

Speaking to The Ring, Hearn believes Pero still has a lot to prove despite some backing the 32-year-old to become a world champion. 

"Pero is a guy who is number three in the world with the WBA in the heavyweight division, he’s a fantastic amateur," Hearn said.

"Him and his brother are kind of like, obviously it’s a strong statement, but the Cuban Klitschko brothers. People believe these guys are future heavyweight champions.

"He’s never really beat anyone of note, but what he does have is great pedigree and a lot of ability."

When it came to Thompson's chances, Hearn explained why he thinks the 32-year-old took the fight which many expect him to lose. 

"Seeing him this week, he’s an absolute monster.

"Jordan’s thinking ‘I can nick his ranking’. If I beat him I’m number three, number two in the world and I’m one fight away from a mandatory shot at the world heavyweight title.

"The fight will be over inside six rounds, Jordan punches very hard and Pero will stick it on him."
