Smith met Gerwyn Price in the final, winning 6-3 to move up to second spot.
He defeated Michael van Gerwen in the first round, leaving Van Gerwen down in third spot after he had led the early part of the season.
The top three have already qualified for the play-offs, with just one regular evening of darts to come next week.
