"It's a new era": Drake Maye and Mike Vrabel are writing a new chapter in Patriots' history
When Drake Maye stood in front of the mic after the New England Patriots’ AFC Championship win over the Denver Broncos, his tone embodied exactly what everyone else was thinking.
“It’s a new team, it’s a new era,” he said, revelling in how the Patriots, after finishing 4-13 in 2024, now stand on the verge of Super Bowl glory after failing to make it past the Wild Card round since 2018.
“We changed that narrative and look forward to bringing our best football for [the Super Bowl],” Maye continued.
"I respect and appreciate what the Patriots dynasty did," Maye added as a nod to the Tom Brady-Bill Belichick era, which saw the Patriots win six Lombardi Trophies between 2002 and 2019.
But Maye's isn't looking behind; his focus is clearly on the task ahead, and the opportunity to write a new chapter in the franchise story by defeating the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX on February 8th.
His head coach, Mike Vrabel, a former linebacker who won three rings with New England, shared Maye's confidence in the new-look Patriots.
And believe they did. The Patriots flipped the script, finished 14-3 and earned their first division title since 2019. And, after a comeback season for the ages, who would put it past them overcoming Seattle in the final?
It will be a tough task, but the way this New England franchise is shaping up, anything is possible.
