Scotland boosted their chances of World Cup qualification by coming from behind to beat Greece at Hampden Park, and central to the win was Bologna's Lewis Ferguson.

Steve Clarke's side had to do it the hard way, however, as they went behind on the hour mark to a goal from Roma loanee Konstantinos Tsimikas, but quickly turned the game around.

Ryan Christie got the Scots back in the game just two minutes later, before Ferguson netted ten minutes from the end and then Lyndon Dykes wrapped up the points deep into stoppage time.

The goal was a first for his country for Ferguson, who has now won seven Scotland caps in 2025, taking his tally to 19 appearances.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the win, the Bologna man said, "It means everything. Playing here in front of our home crowd, it's so important to pick up maximum points, and we did that.

"This game means nothing if we don't win on Sunday. We'll recover and go again.

"When I was growing up, first and foremost, the dream is to play for your country and then to score for your country. It's just such a proud moment. I'm just so happy to finally get it.

"It's been a long time coming. (0:19) I was just wanting Big Granty to get his hand off my neck.

"I was getting choked out! I was trying to run, but Grant, he definitely wasn't letting me go. So, I just had to try and save my life and stop!"

Ferguson has fought back from the knee injury that saw him ruled out of Euro 2024 and in helping Scotland's victory over Greece, stands a real chance of making the World Cup next year if Clarke's men can make it to the US, Canada and Mexico next year.

The midfielder has played in every game for Bologna so far this season and was part of the side's Coppa Italia-winning team last year, a moment that saw an emotional response from his father. So, after getting his first goal for his country, will Ferguson expect the same response from his Dad?

"It's nerve-wracking for him watching all the games," he added.

"I know that from my brothers telling me. After every game, they text me to say how bad he's been. Whether that's on the stand or watching on the TV.

"I'm sure he'll go home and have a glass of wine tonight and enjoy it."

Scotland are currently level on points with Denmark in Group C and have hopes of at least bagging a play-off place.

Next up is a clash with Belarus on Tuesday, where a win would put them in a prime position ahead of November's double-header, where Scotland travel to Greece before hosting the Danes.

"It gives us three points and takes us one step closer to what we want to do," boss Clarke said after the Greece win.

"We had to win here and see what the situation is after that."
