Could Trent Alexander-Arnold return to the Premier League?

Fabrizio Romano says there is "absolutely nothing" to the rumours that Trent Alexander-Arnold will leave Real Madrid for a Premier League club this calendar year.

Alexander-Arnold is enduring a nightmare first season with the La Liga giants, having suffered two major injury spells already. He is currently sidelined for two months following an injury picked up against Athletic Club in December, and when he returns to full fitness there are no indications that he'd walk back into the starting XI under new manager Alvaro Arbeloa.

The 27-year-old has made just eight league appearances for Los Blancos, a situation that also threatens his spot on the England squad in a World Cup year.

Given all that Alexander-Arnold has undergone in his maiden Real Madrid campaign, it's not surprising that exit rumours have swirled. Additionally, reports of interest from Manchester City and Newcastle have surfaced, with a return to the Premier League seen as a possible fresh start for the former Liverpool star.

However, Romano stated on this week's episode of DAZN Transfer with Fabrizio Romano that rumours about Alexander-Arnold's departure from the Bernabeu are nothing more than gossip as the player wants to fight for his place in Madrid.

"I also saw these rumours and we're getting many questions, but from what I'm told, there is absolutely nothing ongoing at this stage," Romano said. "Not for the January window, for sure, but I think even for the summer.

"Trent knows that obviously the start of the new career at Real Madrid has been probably not as they wanted and expected, but it's also about injuries. Sometimes [it] can be unlucky, but this is a project for long term.

"Real Madrid have full trust in Trent. Trent's dream was to be a Real Madrid player, and so he's gonna fight for that. I don't think they're planning for any exit at this stage.

"I'm not aware of any negotiation or conversation with English clubs."
