The Premier League returns this weekend after the international break and there are some huge storylines to keep an eye on.

Ange Postecoglou is coming under increased scrutiny as his Nottingham Forest side - winless in seven since he was appointed - host Chelsea while Liverpool take on sworn enemies Manchester United in a heavyweight clash.

Here, DAZN News picks out five key angles to watch out for heading into the weekend’s fixtures.

Must-win for Big Ange?

Just seven games into his reign at the City Ground and Ange Postecoglou is already being tipped for the sack.

It says much for an increasing desperation.

Granted, only four of those matches were in the Premier League but Nottingham Forest’s general form is cause for serious alarm.

They were dumped out of the Carabao Cup at Championship side Swansea City after surrendering a 2-0 half-time lead before losing 3-2.

Earlier this month there was a damaging 3-2 home loss against Midtjylland in the Europa League which led to Forest fans calling for their manager's head.

Reports have suggested that Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is considering Sean Dyche as a potential replacement for Postecoglou.

Big Ange needs a win pretty quickly and Saturday's lunchtime visit of Chelsea has taken on added importance.

Survival six-pointer at Turf Moor

It is early days, but Burnley’s home clash against Leeds United has the look of a game which could have a big bearing on both sides’ hopes of avoiding relegation.

The Roses rivals earned automatic promotion together last season with 100 points apiece, with Leeds pipping the Clarets to the title on a dramatic final day by virtue of their superior points difference.

Sunderland, who went up via the play-offs, have so far fared the best of the three promoted sides.

They have picked up 11 points from their opening seven games and lie ninth in the embryonic Premier League table.

Burnley are in the bottom three and Leeds lie 15th, so both teams will be keen to pick up points in Saturday’s Turf Moor showdown.

Haaland out to maintain hot streak

Nothing, it seems, can stop Erling Haaland right now.

The Manchester City striker is enjoying some of the best form of his career for club and country.

Just look at his stats. Twenty-goals in 12 games for City and Norway – and it is only the middle of October!

City host Everton on Saturday and Haaland, who hit a hat-trick at the weekend in Norway’s 5-0 win over Israel, will look to find the net for the 11th game in succession.

What might Haaland be capable of this season? The mind boggles.

North London rivals on the march

Arsenal have taken advantage of defending champions Liverpool’s recent wobble by climbing to the Premier League summit.

Their odds on becoming champions have shortened and Gunners fans are starting to believe that this could finally be their year.

Mikel Arteta's men head to Fulham on Saturday teatime aiming to register a third straight Premier League victory.

But do not overlook the start to the season that Tottenham have made either.

Thomas Frank’s side lie third after seven games – just two points behind their table-topping neighbours.

Nobody seems quite sure how good Tottenham can be this season, least of all themselves, but that they are heading in the right direction is undeniable.

After a third win from four unbeaten away games this season last time out – 2-1 at Leeds – belief grows that Spurs have rapidly developed into a far more cohesive and resilient outfit to the one which slumped to their worst Premier League finish under Ange Postecoglou last term.

Tottenham host Aston Villa on Sunday and another win for Frank's side really would get people talking.

Slot under pressure to stop the rot

The game of the weekend – and one of the matches of the season – takes place at Anfield on Sunday when Liverpool host old adversaries Manchester United.

Arne Slot’s side are on a bad run of form, having lost their last three games, and need to return to winning ways fast if they are to mount a successful defence of their title.

Any fixture between Liverpool and United is guaranteed to stir the blood and Ruben Amorim will be desperate for a result as he fights to keep his job in the Old Trafford hot-seat.

The Red Devils manager has come under fire in his first full year in charge at Old Trafford, as the 40-year-old led United to a 15th place finish in the Premier League last season — their lowest since 1990 — and has guided the club to 10th in the standings after seven matches in the current campaign.

Under Amorim, the Red Devils have yet to record back-to-back victories in the Premier League and they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the first hurdle this season by fourth-tier Grimsby Town.

Whatever the outcome on Sunday, it promises to be a compelling spectacle between English football’s two biggest and most successful clubs.
