Team news

The Orlando quarter-final will be a first-ever meeting of the two sides after they both upset the odds to land knock-out blows on European heavyweights last time out. Fluminense netted at the start and at the very end of the Round of 16 game in Charlotte against FC Internazionale Milano after striker German Cano's header was added to in injury time by substitute Hercules. However, Hercules replaced Martinelli who suffered a knock and could be out of this one, and they will have to do without suspended left-back Rene following his second booking of the tournament against Inter.

Al Hilal arguably topped that shock success when they stunned Manchester City in an astonishing seven-goal thriller in Orlando as Marcos Leonardo netted an extra-time winner to eliminate Pep Guardiola's side. Musab Al Juwayr has recovered from a knee injury and was able to feature as a late substitute against City, but captain Salem Al Dawsari is set to miss the remainder of the tournament with a hamstring problem.

Elsewhere, key central defender Hassan Al Tambakti is still struggling with injury and could once again miss out. Veteran forward Abderrazak Hamdallah was signed on a short-term loan from fellow Saudi side Al Shabab and is expected to be involved here, with Aleksandar Mitrovic still not fit.

Possible starting XIs

Fluminense: Fabio; Samuel Xavier, Thiago Silva (C), Freytes, Fuentes; Martinelli, Hercules; Arias, Nonato, Canobbio; Cano.

Al Hilal: Bounou; Joao Cancelo, Al-Harbi, Koulibaly, Renan Lodi; Nasser Al-Dawsari, Ruben Neves, Milinkovic-Savic; Malcom, Marcos Leonardo, Kanno (c).

What they said

"Al Hilal is a very important opponent and it will be a very difficult match. We have defined a strategy, preparing ourselves as best as possible because we want to reach the semifinal. We have to manage the players well, on and off the pitch. I spoke with my team, I saw them very motivated. We are living a magical moment and we don't know if an opportunity like this will happen again in our lives. We feel like a family, we have built great relationships thanks to this tournament. So I told the team not to give up and not to leave spaces to the opponents."
Renato Portaluppi, Fluminense coach

"I think we’ve played very well in this competition. It’s not easy to play against European teams, but the motivation for us is different. I’m very proud of my team and myself as well, because ten days ago I had a hamstring injury. Now we need to recover well because after three or four days we have to play again. I’m not young, you know? So I need to recover well.”
Thiago Silva, Fluminense center-back

“It was a great result against City. It gave us a lot of awareness. We are confident for [Friday's] match against Fluminense. We want to play a great game."
Simone Inzaghi, Al Hilal coach

"I've had a difficult time in the last two months. My mother spent 70 days in the Intensive Care Unit. Today she's fine, thank God. When I scored those two goals, I thought of her - she was able to watch the match. We have to think about our families - people who want the best for us. If they weren't watching, I wouldn't be here today."
Marcos Leonardo, Al Hilal striker

Originally opened almost 90 years ago, Camping World Stadium has undergone multiple expansions and refits in the intervening years, culminating in the 2014 redevelopment which saw the creation of a 90 percent all-new stadium following an investment of over $200 million. A host of sporting, entertainment, and musical events have taken place at the Orlando venue, with The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, and Elton John all taking to the stage, while WrestleMania XXIV wowed a venue-record crowd of 74,635 in 2008.
