Palmeiras win bloody Brazilian Botafogo battle to reach quarters: Recap of the last 16 contest

Palmeiras  are through to the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup after a battling victory over Brazilian rivals Botafogo in Philadelphia.

They will now meet the winner of  Chelsea and Benfica,  who kick off a 6pm ET / 1pm PT / 9pm BST in the second Round of 16 match.

This all Brazilian affair was a tight one, which saw 12 cards and a red, and was eventually resolved in extra time by substitute Paulinho's 100th minute strike.

It was Palmeiras first win over Botafogo in six attempts, however, it was not all good news, with captain Gomez sent off in the final minutes, meaning he will miss the quarter-final contest.
