The Premier League is now on hiatus with the arrival of the October international break, but it went out in an entertaining way with a notable set of games in Matchweek 7.

Included in this is the end of the undefeated era this season, a new team on top of the standings, and the one-track mind of one of the league's biggest stars.

Here are some of the bigger talking points from Matchweek 7.

Crystal Palace's reign as the last undefeated team ends

There will be no "Invincibles" this season as the final unbeaten holdouts suffered their first loss this weekend.

Crystal Palace held the title of last undefeated side in the 2025-26 Premier League season after handing Liverpool their first loss of the campaign last week, but Palace's own bid to remain unbeaten only lasted another week as they were bested by Everton, 2-1, on Sunday.

It took a Jack Grealish goal deep into stoppage time to finally deny Palace from earning points in a league match, but Oliver Glasner's side will have nothing to be ashamed of, as their overall undefeated streak started last season and continued for far longer than even the most ardent supporters could have imagined.

Arsenal on top

The Gunners have taken over first place in the Premier League standings after defeating West Ham United 2-0 on Saturday, a result that was followed by previous leaders Liverpool losing their second straight league match (and third straight across all competitions).

Arsenal have stayed true to their principles this season, with the fewest goals allowed and the second-most goals scored. However, having a much deeper squad than in previous seasons has helped them maintain the kind of consistency from week to week that will be needed if they are to mount a serious title challenge after finishing second in each of the last three years.

As for their current situation, Arsenal have been in this spot before — Mikel Arteta's men have even led past New Year's in recent seasons before ultimately falling short. But closing the gap on Liverpool and overtaking the defending champions in a matter of a couple of weeks shows that the Gunners can be opportunistic when needed.

Whether they can continue to do so for the remainder of the season is the real question.

Erling Haaland: Goal machine

If it seems like we talk about Haaland's scoring exploits after every weekend, it's because we do.

And how can we not? The Manchester City striker is red-hot and cannot stop pouring in the goals.

Haaland scored the lone goal in City's 1-0 victory at Brentford on Sunday, bringing him to nine Premier League goals on the season. The 25-year-old has scored in six of City's seven league matches so far and leads the Golden Boot Race by three goals.

He's also got three Champions League goals to his name, bringing him to 12 goals in nine total appearances.

After his "down" year in 2024-25 (when he scored 22 Premier League goals and had 34 in 48 games across all competitions), it's fair to say that Haaland is back.
